Congratulation's to Children's Oncology Services, Inc.!

This past Wednesday, the students at Highland Park High School voted on this year’s Charity Drive recipient. The charities on the ballot were Friends United for Juvenile Diabetes Research, Family Network, and Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. At the end of the day, Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. was announced the winner! Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to offering year-round programming that allows children with cancer to just be kids. The charity was created when Dr. Edward Baum, a pediatric oncologist at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, recognized that the isolation from school, activities and peers was having negative social and developmental consequences for his patients. The charity plans and operates a wide portfolio of camping, recreational and educational programs for children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer; these experiences of joy translate into a renewed sense of hope and control over their lives, increased happiness and self-esteem and reduced anxiety. HPHS and the boys and girls track teams are so excited to rally around this tremendous cause!
